These are Charles university courses which include both the Czech language courses and studying of subjects which the candidate will have to pass at the entrance exams.

The students taking preliminary courses at Charles University get a long-term visa for study purposes (student’s visa). The intensity of language courses is 25 academic hours per week. The courses are held in the educational center of Charles University in Prague – Albertov.

In addition to the main course, students can purchase services on adaptation and academic support (“Plus” or “Student” programs) which include meeting at the airport, transfer, if necessary, registration at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic, and assistance of tutor in many important issues, like prolongation of visas, nostrification of degree diplomas and school certificates, assistance with submission of applications to universities and registration at additional preliminary courses, etc. You can find more detailed information about adaptation and academic support programs here.

Year-long intense courses – Prague-Albertov

Duration of the year-long intensive preliminary courses of Czech language at Charles University makes 10 months. The course lasts from September till June. Students study grammar, syntactic structures and expand their vocabulary. Upon termination of the courses, students attain В2 level which is required for entering the Czech universities. Year-long preliminary courses of Czech language include 25 academic hours per week. Upon termination of the courses and passing the examination, students receive a certificate.

Cost of this language course at Charles University makes 3.750 EUR. Applications can be submitted till May 15, 2018.

Charles University offers year-long intensive Czech language preliminary courses which include studying in summer. These courses last from September till August or from February till January.

Cost of this course makes 5.140 EUR.

Semester intense courses – Prague-Albertov

Semester intense preliminary courses of Czech at Charles University last from September till January or from February till June. Upon termination of the courses, beginners reach А2 level.

Cost of this course is 1.935 EUR.

Semester Czech language courses with studying in summer months start in February and finish in the end of August and allow the students to obtain the visa till the end of August. This is a good choice for those students who plan to enter the university and stay in the Czech Republic after termination of the courses.

Cost of semester courses with studying in summer makes 3.285 EUR.

Six-week intense courses – Prague-Albertov

Six-week intense courses at Charles University are arranged 4 times a year. The next six-week courses will have the following time frame:

• 11.9.18 – 24.10.18
• 5.11.18 – 17.12.18
• 5.2.19 – 19.3.19
• 1.4.19 – 19.5.19

Price of the courses is 1.225 EUR.

Price of 6-week courses includes support and adaptation services under “Plus” program.

Graduates of the six-week courses will master communication in Czech at elementary level. Upon termination of the courses, students can continue studying at the next level of six-week courses or take a semester course. Successful termination of the courses ensures attainment of А1 level. The courses price includes 25 academic hours of Czech per week, teaching materials, and certificate.

Charles University offers also Evening school of the Czech language, semester non-intense course, and individual courses.

Preliminary courses (Czech language and core subjects)

Fields of study: philology, journalism, linguistics, pedagogy, psychology, political science, international relations, region studies, law, sociology

Studied subjects: Czech language, introduction to the field of study, history, biology, logic, geography (exact set of subjects depends on the chosen field of study). English language was excluded from the program to devote more academic hours to Czech language. However, additional English courses at extra charge are possible for groups of over 10 students. Required level for the participation in the course is В2.

If you decide to take a year-long or semester course you get consultations on study at Charles University, information on its departments and faculties, preliminary courses free of charge, as well as free visa support, and namely: various consultations concerning collection of documents for the student’s visa, comprehensive information on submission of documents to embassies and consulates of the Czech Republic and preparation for the interview at the Czech embassy.
